"Who the eff is George Bailey?" was my first thought when I heard the news Australia had made him their T20 skipper. "And why the eff is he their new captain?" came next.
Not only did these thoughts prove to me that I probably need to extend my vocabulary, but also that I don't know as much about cricket as I think I do.
I'd never heard of him before, so I did some research and then asked myself: "Why the eff is he their new captain?"
Sure, Cameron White had to go. He was about as good a captain as he is a batsman (he averaged 7.58 in this season's Big Bash...), but why pick an uncapped, internationally inexperienced batsman to lead the team?
Bailey has obviously impressed Austalia's new selection panel headed by John Inverarity and you'd assume they're looking to the future with him at the helm.
The two match T20 "series" (don't get me started) against India begins tomorrow and while Bailey has home advantage in his favour it will still be a baptism of fire against an Indian side coming off the back of a Test series caning with nothing to lose.
And with only four T20 matches currently sitting in the Aussie calendar before September's World T20 in Sri Lanka, Captain Fantastic won't have long to settle into the role.
Which is why I think the Aussies have missed a trick. Surely David Warner would have been a better candidate? The Australian press were quick to jump on the bandwagon when he was picked for the recent Test series and some went as far as labelling him a FAC (Future Australian Captain if you were wondering, and definitely not anything else...)
Not only is he Australia's best T20 player, but the T20 cpataincy would have given him a chance to harness his skippering skills in a high-pressure environment. I know he's been made vice-captain, but as we've seen with Nick Clegg, a 'vice' tag basically translates as 'bitch'. Bailey's bitch?
But it's not just the captaincy that's been shaken up, the whole squad has as well. Brad Hogg, at the ripe age of 41, has been brought back after an impressive Big Bash and rumours are that Warnie will return for the World T20 if he can reschedule his botox therapy.
A number of T20 'specialists' have been picked, including Travis Birt, Aaron Finch and Dan Christian, and while I admire the selectors' bold move to form a new side, I just don't agree with their choice of captain.
Captain Fantastic? We'll see, but not for me.
